There are many sales prospecting tools free to use online for business owners. But what most people tend to ask is, which ones should I use? Do they all work? Are paid prospecting tools better than the free ones? My answer, not always.
You see, what it all comes down to is this.
Does the tool work for your business?
What I’ve come to realize is that most people think that the only way you can prospect properly, is by using the paid version of prospecting tools. I’m here to tell you, that’s not the case.
In this post I’m going to share some free tools you can use to help your prospecting efforts. But before I get into the tools, let’s get back to the basics for a second.
What is Prospecting in Sales?
Before we start covering the tools, it’s best to understand, what is prospecting in sales? Prospecting in sales is the process of finding new potential customers with the intent on finding new business. Without prospecting, in any business, almost any business can stall or even fail. Which is why I talk about prospecting in this post. It’s very important, especially if you want to keep your business up and running.

Importance of Prospecting
The importance of prospecting in sales tends to be overlooked in the world of business and marketing. Don’t get me wrong, people may know what prospecting is, but they still may be asking, who is a prospect in marketing? The reason is, they still don’t fully understand how much prospecting can move them closer to creating sales in their business. But there are certain things that stand in the way of marketers and business owners when it comes to prospecting.

Why Is Prospecting Difficult for Some Salespeople?
A question I tend to get asked often is, why is prospecting difficult for some salespeople? Most people understand it can help, but why don’t they implement the practice? There are many roadblocks that stop people from prospecting. But like I’ve said before in other posts about prospecting, it’s because they don’t understand the true power. Neither do they understand what tools they should or can be using to make their prospecting efforts a lot simpler.

Sales Prospecting Tools Free of Charge
There are definitely free prospecting tools you can use to help you find prospects. I’ve talked about a few tools and resources you can use in previous posts. So if you want to learn more about those tools, I suggest you look on the right side of this page and look for the search form. Type in prospecting and you can learn more about it there. In the meantime, here are the two prospecting tools you can start using now to find targeted prospects.
- Facebook’s Graph Search
- Using the graph search is simple and easy for anyone to use. It all comes down to knowing your audience and which keywords to type in to find ideal customers. I cover how to use the Facebook graph search in the “Target Marketing Strategies Course”. You can learn more about it here.
- The real-time feature offered by Tagboard is one of my favorites. It allows you to monitor social media content in real time and find potential prospects depending on the type of content they post.
- Like Tagboard, Mention is a social media monitoring tool that allows you to track certain keywords and phrases people are using in their content. Your target audience can be easily found with this tool.
